Steve

My brother Steve. Steven Russell Sloan. Born May 6, 1942, Passed into rest on October 12, 2010 at his daughter Stephanie's home in Texas. Married to his high school sweetheart for very close to 48 years. Alice Gay Sloan passed into rest on February 23, 2010. Their anniversary was on April 29th (I think, correct later.

Here they are on their wedding day in 1962. My dad, Willie Sloan, mom, Juanita, Alice, Steve, Alice's dad, Ralph Wakeley, and her mom, Winifred. This was at Ralph and Winifred Wakeley's farm up on Little Beaver.

Steve was in the Navy.

For my birthday or for Christmas one year when I was six (I think) he sent me a Geisha girl doll and a black lacquered jewelry box from Japan, where he was stationed. I loved those presents because they really seemed exotic to me, even at that age, but mostly because my beloved big brother sent them to me. The doll was just a standing figure on a little piece of black lacquered wood, and was treated more roughly than it should have been and has since passed the way of roughly treated items, but I still have the little jewelry box. It too was treated a little more roughly than it should have been but has survived somehow.

~~~~~Oh gosh I sure do miss him.~~~~~ We actually weren't really close in the last several years before he died but it was just because we were both such procrastinators, but we loved each other dearly and we knew it.  We just didn't make the time to see each other. One of my life's biggest, saddest regrets. I did make a trip to Texas with my sister Ginger to see him a few months before he died and I will treasure that time I got to spend with him. Ginger went back a few weeks before he died and stayed until he passed away. Ginger and Steve were only two years apart, Ginger was born in 1940 and Steve in 1942.
LOVE YOU BROTHER!
Enough for now......
