When we lived at "the place", Mom & Ginger always used to tell us about Ginger's playhouse, which was up on the hill in front of the house. Ginger and Steve and cousins and friends used to go up on the little hill in front of the house and they fashioned a playhouse out of glade rocks. They worked and moved them around the way they wanted them and arranged them into "furniture".
When Ginger and Steve were little, Mom's sisters were around a lot. They either lived here or came back home a lot more than when I was a child. Ginger and Steve had quite a few cousins to play with and they had a very good time playing with each other.
When I was little I had Sue and Venessa around quite a bit, so we were always begging to go up the hill to Ginger's playhouse. Mom & Ginger were never in the mood to climb the little hill and they said they probably couldn't find the right place anyway because a lot of brush had grown up on the hill.
This is me^^^^
when I was around 6 years old,
standing in the front yard.
You can see the hill behind me.
I was older than Sue by a couple of years and 4 years older than Venessa, so yes, I was the ringleader or boss most of the time.
One day, when we were probably around 8, 6, and 4 I persuaded Sue and Venessa to go up the hill with me to find the playhouse. We climbed the hill and hunted until we found a place we thought looked like the playhouse. Rocks had been placed in a somewhat square arrangement so we were sure we had found it! Brush had grown up around the rocks and it wasn't quite as fun as we thought it would be and we soon tired of playing there.
We took off back down the hill towards home. It seemed a lot farther down than it had going up, and I got worried that maybe we had gotten lost. We finally broke through a brush thicket and there sat the house. Funny thing though, it didn't look like our house to me. I guess it was coming upon it from a different perspective but I was half afraid we had come out to somebody else's house. I guess I had read too many fairy tales and thought maybe some evil witch would put us in a cage and fatten us up to eat for supper one night!
We never did tell Mom & Ginger that we went up the hill. I would have probably got a spanking or at least a good scolding if they knew we had gone up there. None of us ever mentioned it and none of us ever wanted to go back. When I think about how really young we were I wouldn't have blamed them a bit. I would like to go back now, but probably would never be able to find it 50 years later.
